How can I volunteer?

We are always looking for volunteers for various projects at the library. Volunteers are defined as members of the community who work on a voluntary basis (donate both time and effort). There is no set number of hours or times for them to report to work. Hours will be at the discretion of the Director and/or Branch Manager. Volunteers work under the supervision of a staff member appointed by the Director or the Branch Manager. All volunteers are required to work within the confines of the library policies. To make your volunteer experience the best it can be, volunteers should work out duties with library personnel in advance and should be dedicated to the duties assigned. All work is done at the risk of the volunteer. The District does not carry insurance that protects the volunteer in case of accidental injury. If you would like to volunteer, or have questions, please email us at robinsonlibrarydistrict@hotmail.com.

Guidelines for Volunteers:
• Volunteers are required to fill out a volunteer application prior to being accepted as a
volunteer. Volunteers under 18 years of age need the permission of their parents to
serve as volunteers for the library district. The minimum age for a volunteer is 11 years old.
• . The Robinson Public Library District cannot guarantee the availability of volunteer work, as volunteer work is based on library needs.
• . Volunteers must comply with all Robinson Public Library District policies.
• The Robinson Public Library District reserves the right to terminate the services of the
volunteer.
• Volunteers should not be in Staff Only areas of any district facility without direct supervision by a Robinson Public Library District staff member.
• Volunteers may not be used to establish and maintain new library services.
• Volunteers will not be used to replace or reduce the number of paid staff.
• Volunteers will be covered with respect to liability insurance in relation to their
duties. Volunteers are not covered by district health insurance, workers’ compensation
insurance, IMRF, or provided any other benefits by the Robinson Public Library District.
• Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of ALL library
information. Failure to maintain confidentiality will result in immediate termination of the
volunteer.
• The employee who supervised the volunteer will, upon request, provide letters of
reference for the volunteer, if deemed appropriate.
• All personal information about the volunteer is for internal use only.

How do I make a donation?

The Robinson Public Library District is always grateful for gifts, and its collection has been enriched greatly by many fine donations of books, DVDs, and audio-books. Gifts of printed and manuscript materials on the history of the community and the region are especially welcome. The library makes an effort to use all gift material which it does not add to its own collection to the very best advantage. If at all suitable, it is offered to other libraries or institutions as gifts or exchanges. Otherwise it will be offered to the public in the library’s book sale. Proceeds are used to purchase new materials for the library.

Accepted Materials

– Books in good condition – hardcover or paperback, fiction or non-fiction, adult or children’s

– Books published in the last 5 years (library). The Book Sale accepts some older volumes.

– Recent best sellers

– Classic titles in excellent condition

Encyclopedias cannot be accepted.

Another option is planned giving. Planned gifts are donations to the Robinson Public Library District’s Endowment Fund through an individual’s financial and estate plans. These gifts can help support the library’s long-term mission of providing public library service to Robinson Public Library District residents. A planned gift can also benefit the donor through tax benefits. One of the simplest and most popular ways to make a planned gift is to give through your will or trust. You can make a bequest to the Robinson Public Library District’s Endowment Fund by adding the following language to your will: “I bequeath (dollar amount, percentage of residue of estate or description of property) to the Robinson Public Library District’s Endowment Fund, a non-for-profit charitable organization located in Robinson, Illinois, to benefit the Robinson Public Library District.” Every individual’s financial situation is unique, so we recommend that you consult an attorney or financial adviser in planning a gift to the Robinson Public Library District.

If you would like to discuss a planned gift to the Robinson Public Library District, please write, call, or e-mail (all inquiries are held in strict confidence): Robinson Public Library District, Douglas Roberts, Library Director, 606 N. Jefferson St., Robinson, Illinois 62454-2665 or call 618-544-2917 or email robinsonlibrarydistrict@hotmail.com.

  • Celebrate a special event like a birthday or anniversary…
  • Acknowledge an achievement or graduation…
  • Show appreciation to a person or group deserving special thanks…

Can the library proctor a test for me?

The Robinson Public Library District will provide proctoring services upon request. The proctoring service should be scheduled in advance and the person taking the test should provide the library with a contact phone number. Proctoring will only take place one day/week, and only at the Robinson main location, to ensure an adequate testing environment, including a staff member scheduled to monitor the scheduled exam(s).

The appointment may be canceled due to library closure (i.e. closure due to inclement weather, etc.)

There is no fee for test administration. The person taking the test will be accountable for ensuring that the test is sent to the library for the proctor appointment. The library will hold any test materials that are sent to the library for three months and then will discard if not picked up.

To schedule a test date, please contact the library at 618-544-2917 or via email at robinsonlibrarydistrict@hotmail.com. Proctored tests take place in the Newlin Room.
